‘La catalogacion de Libros RDA’ course was given by professor Ageo Garcia, and took place at the UANL Department of Information Technology facilities on October 10th and 11th, 2011.
The event was organized by the Department of Libraries Systems which is in charge of Ing. Angel Mario Cantu Morales; this department belongs to the DGI Academic Subdepartment, headed by Ing. Joaquin Huante Hernandez.
The main objective of the course –aimed at catalogers and technician personnel in charge of the implementation of rules in automated environment– was to make conceptual and functional implementation of the new International RDA Cataloging Code easier in the cataloging of monographic work process.
We have to mention that this new RDA cataloging code is applicable to resources of all type of content and medium, it is appropriate to electronic resources and to new technologies of information. RDA is designed for the digital environment because it is a product based on the Web, and therefore, its records are used in digital environment (Internet, Web, OPACs, etc).
Personnel from different university buildings of our Leading Academic Institution such as ‘Capilla Alfonsina’ University Library, Department of Planning and Strategic Projects, and schools of Political Science, Economics, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Philosophy and Language Arts, Civil Engineering, Nursing, Physics and Mathematics, Visual Arts, Medicine Architecture and Law and Criminology were trained as well as the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) and Nuevo Leon State Central Public Library personnel.
The people who attended the course could identify the main changes in the new cataloging rules in order to apply the new workflow with RDA.
Audience’s answer did not take long to come out, Lybia Castillo Ontiveros from the Department of Planning and Strategic Projects (DGPPE, Spanish abbreviation), showed her point of view almost at the end of the event.
“Thank you so much professor Ageo for sharing your experience with us, we want to thank CODICE workmates too; we know the big effort they have made, it is an arduous work, and we also know you have done your best and that sometimes we are not clear at all about catalog things we want, for this reason, we thank you for your patience and of course, thanks for organizing this kind of activities for us,” said Castillos Ontiveros.
For finishing the event, the trainer, professor Ageo Garcia told event’s audience there was already trained people in theoretical and practical part in RDA, and system CODICE was able to enter MARC tags in order to work records with the new RDA rules, now we have to make it keeps working properly, and keep working and practicing with this new cataloging code.
