The ‘Intrauniversitario de Sofware Libre 2011’ event –Inter-university of Free Software in English – where academic institutions of Nuevo Leon shared experiences about the use and benefits of free software, took place at the ‘Raul Rangel Frias’ University Library on September 23rd, 2011.
The Tecnologico de Monterrey, Universidad de Monterrey, Universidad Regiomontana, and the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL), are some universities which participated in the event.
The universities that participated in the event, offered a lecture about some specific use of free software and how to use it in the university or professional life.
The UANL Department of Information Technology (DGI, Spanish abbreviation) participated in the simultaneous workshops with PHP Programming topic, which was in charge of Dagoberto Salas Zendejo, DGI Department of Architecture and Design of Information Coordinator.
Salas Zendejo –in his workshop– talked about interpreted programming language PHP, which is a language used in hundreds of thousands of websites and implemented in most of content managements of current blogs and news websites as well as in discussion forums.
One of PHP characteristics “is that besides being free software, the source code is 90% programmed by users, making this software really popular and with the enough documentation that allows beginners to go into web programming without many frustrations,” said Dagoberto Salas.
PHP is really noble, “it takes few resources, for this reason if you have an obsolete desktop with PHP, it will work properly as a service in a small local network or to be in Internet directly as a web server of your business or enterprise.”
PHP is an alternative of free software for the trademark such as Visual .NET. Nowadays, there is its version 5 and more people keep collaborating to obtain a more functional and with better performance levels version.
