The Information Technology Department (DGI, Spanish abbreviation) is committed to satisfy users’ necessities by developing the most advanced practices in information technology, and following International Certifications.
The foregoing was stated by Ing. Alberto Zambrano Elizondo, Director, on Tuesday, October 5th in a meeting that took place at the DGI central patio.
Engineer Zambrano, next to his closest co-workers, invited all the personnel to continue working as to date in order to achieve the excellence in all the provided services.
“This is the first time we all meet here in the Information Technology Department to talk about a project that we have been managing for some time,” said Ing. Zambrano.
“It is about a stage of that project which is part of our quality system; we are in a moment that we call Kick-off or the beginning of one more stage of this quality project already implemented in our institution.
“We have started this stage with an awareness campaign developed by the Quality work team supported by graphic designers and the Web Services staff; you might have noticed some images, posters and phrases with the word CAMBIO (change, in English) that are placed in strategic areas of our building.”
“The campaign has the purpose of motivating us, of making us thinking on what this change is about in order to conclude that the change is in ourselves, in our wish to change, in our openness to receive ideas, in our willingness to change.”
Ing. Zambrano also mentioned that in 2005, the DGI obtained the ISO 9001-2000 implementation to the quality in services; however, it is time to add other practices: the ITIL, CMMI, COBIT, PMI and ICREA processes.”
“Nowadays we are releasing the first seven processes of ITIL, and at the same time, we are in the Kick off, starting a CMMI Pilot test. The ITIL processes are already carried out, we gave training and now we are using them for our activities, so I invite you to continue with the change.”
“The processes I am talking about are: Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Configuration Management, Release Management, Service Catalog and Service Level Management.”
“In CMMI, a pilot test will be released, where we are going to incorporate 18 great CMMI processes, included in levels 2 and 3; we want your feedback.”
“On the other hand, we will present the strategic planning, in which the objectives of the Information Technology Department will be according to the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon Vision 2012 objectives; and we are taking COBIT as basis for this process.”
The Director said that ITIL second stage -including eleven processes- will be incorporated by 2011 and 2012, in order to obtain the ISO-20000 certification for the fulfilling of processes in Information Technology.
Ing. Zambrano also mentioned that by the first three months of 2011, the DGI will try to obtain the certification of CMMI Level 3, with the released pilot. The implementation of the ISO-27001 will start by the second semester of the same year; this is an ISO certification for information technology security.
“Nowadays, we perform security practices in all our areas but they must be increased and improved, we must be sure they are the best and get the recognition and certification for them, so this is why we are adding ISO-27001.”
“Keep in mind that everything we do is to guarantee quality in the services given by the Information Technology Department; after all, we are a Service Supplier Department making an effort to give the best quality, as possible.”
“I always say that all the services we give are supported by three great pillars or columns: Technology, Processes and Human Resource, and the three are really important so services cannot be affected.”
“It is not enough to acquire excellent technology, excellent hardware, excellent software; it is not enough the good attitude and great training of all our people, if the column of Processes is not well strengthened, well consolidated or if it does not have the best practices.”
To conclude, Ing. Alberto Zambrano reminded that the institution’s objective is to train better professionals at society’s service, with the UANL Vision: To be Mexico’s Public University with the greatest national and international prestige, so he asked the audience’s support in order to achieve the change.
