“You have really taken advantage of Information Technologies advances.”
Ing. Manuel Coronado Arreaga, one of Department of Information Technology founders, worked at the UANL Electronic Center for Calculus (CEC, Spanish abbreviation) for six years (from 1971 to 1977).
Ing. Coronado after working at the CEC worked in Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc (Grupo FEMSA, Fomento Economico Mexicano, S.A.), where he had a professional career for 17 years, from 1978 to 1995, carrying out different activities such as being Projects Leader, Financial Systems Head, Systems in Food Division Manager and Technological Planning Director.
In 1995 he founded Grupo OPEN –together with four partners– an enterprise that is currently composed by four companies specialized in Information Technologies and Communications, (Open Service, Northware, PlanNet and Nearcontact) with 300 employees.
We talked to him to tell us what he thinks about his visit to DGI facilities.
Q: Engineer, is there any difference between the Electronic Center for Calculus (CEC, Spanish abbreviation) in 70s and the current Department of Information Technology?
A: There is an impressive difference because besides the amazing advance of technology, the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon through the current Department of Information Technology, has taken advantage of those technological advances to meet satisfactorily student population’s necessities, which is five times bigger than the one of that epoch, furthermore, technology makes professors and administrative personnel’s work easier.
Q: If you were working at the DGI, which area would you like to work in?
A: Definitely in systems development and in the administration of all Information Technology services.
Q: Do you have any advice for people who work in this area?
A: They have to do things with passion, because this area is really absorbing and hard, but it is satisfactory because it helps everybody to be more productive and competitive using technology for good; so I would advise them to keep working, improving themselves and keep working with passion as up to now.
“I am really proud of seeing the fruit of the seed we sowed in those years.”
