The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon President, Dr. Jesus Ancer Rodriguez, visited on last Monday, September 6th, 2010 the Information Technology Department facilities.
The leading university director and Engineer Alberto Zambrano Elizondo, DGI Director, walked around some DGI departments, where he could confirm all advances gotten about the cutting-edge technology.
UANL President could know the Computer Center that gives service to all UANL administration, central buildings and all schools which are connected to this center for carrying out administrative and academic services.
In the DGI not only the services availability are assured the 24 hours, seven days a week, but the strong security in information care by avoiding hackers’ attacks.
The short visit stopped in the UANL Integrated Net Services, which connects more than 13,500 computers by wireless, more than 15,000 of wireless users through 200 access points in all campus, as well as 3,200 telephone extensions which are connected.
This Net provides Internet, National Net of Education and Research (Internet2) connection, access to Institutional Systems, wireless through the WUANL, Video conference, Video streaming as well as voice communication through the digital telephone and IP.
In last two and half years, the UANL Net has increased to 2,500 net nodes, computers, servers, mobiles or printers by increasing the use of connectivity services.
According to Ing. Zambrano Elizondo, the visit benefitted the DGI, because the UANL President knew all what he want to know.
The visit was useful to raise with UANL President some requirements to keep improving the quality of information technology services. The UANL President congratulated DGI members because of their work, besides manifesting his surprise when he verified what UANL has and what is carried out in it.
The DGI is conscious that technology is important as people is, but those who mark the order are processes and procedures, for this reason, the DGI is concerned about being certificated in ISO 9001 – 2008 as well as obtaining specialized certifications such as ITIL, CMMI, COBIT and PMI which are focused on assuring what University requires.
“We want to increase servers’ capacity for platforms such as Nexus or Codice, besides specific requirements about human resources, not only for benefiting staff but improving centers of work and equipment’s conditions.
