The celebration of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon 77th anniversary ended successfully with the ‘Fraternidad 5K UANL 2010’ Great Race.
Some university institutions participated in the organization of the competition. They helped in sports, security, and medical care, as well as in the infrastructure of athletes’ registration.
The Department of Information Technology (DGI, Spanish abbreviation) developed a software that made to speed up the registration of participants possible, they in spite of the rain, met in front of ‘The Flame,’ next to the Rectorate Tower Square to do the warm-up exercises before starting the competition that had three categories: walking, jogging or running.
“This is a software we have implemented since the organization of the last year race; this time we had to make some changes because in the last edition there was no limit of participants and this year the maximum was of 7 thousand 700 competitors,” explained Eduardo Garza Cavazos, web developer belonging to the DGI Administrative Systems Sub-department, led by Ing. Gerardo Trevino Barrera.
“The software for the participants’ registration is based on the SIASE and the UANL Labour Exchange. It was a tool created specifically for this kind of events due to it has many advantages; one of them is that it helps us to save a lot of time since it can be used from any UANL institution or school,” he said.
“Another benefit of the implemented program it is that the name of the person registered cannot be registered twice since the username and password given to every student, professor or university employee must be entered, as the case may be,” said Garza Cavazos.
“If a participant was registered in his institution or school and someone else wants to use his username and password, the system will reject the process since it will detect that the user is already registered.
“It is a multisession system, it means, it can be used or at a university school or institution or at the General Direction of Sports, where, in this case, the registration process was controlled.
“Besides that, it makes possible to print the number of athletes registered, totally or partially, by institution, category, age, men’s or women’s category, in Word or Excel, according to every user necessities and to have better control of the people already registered.”
The Web page containing the event general information and the official announcement was developed by the DGI Web Services Coordination. Besides that, the line of the track was drawn using Google Maps technology.
